NaNoJouMo Day 2

NaNoJouMo Day 2 is a picture challenge, I really had fun creating this piece, I am also using up old stacks of paper that lets be fair aren't very nice, not even sure why I bought them to be honest! I dont know what happened to the video, one moment it was recording fine, then I looked up when I went to clean my paint water and brush's and it had stopped! But all you are missing is some basic blending of black into white to make grey.

I hope you enjoy what I have created and will check out the challenge for yourself

Recycled Lush Journal Page 1

Hi everyone, I have finally had some me time and decided I am ready to start my new Art Journal Series. It says it all in the video but I will repeat. I decided that following the spirit of Lush - the soap company - I wanted to do a recycled journal, I had their catalogue so decided what better than to use that for a journal! Its a great size and great paper. So here is page 1......

I hope you enjoy my video, please leave me a thumbs up to show me that you like it!

Thanks for Visiting

Did you know I am a JournalGypsie?

Did you know that I am an author on the Journal Gypsies groups? Well if you didn't, you do now! I am one of several amazingly talented people who post regularly on Journal Gypsies. The idea behind the group is to share inspiration and to show that you can do amazing things with very little supplies or loads of supplies. Some things are simple and elegant, some are hand drawn, some are fussy and fancy. A little bit of everything. We also share inspiration that we have found on our travels around the internet. Here is my journal page that I added today.

You can find us on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.

I hope you follow us and get some fabulous inspiration from us.

January Book Review - Painted Pages

My first book for Darcy's artful readers club is Painted Pages by Sarah Ahearn Bellemare.

My first mistake with this book was when I bought it. I didn't buy this book in person I got it on-line and bought it off the name and front cover alone. To me the name painted pages and the images on the cover denotes some sort of painting book. I was very wrong in this conclusion and really do not understand why it is called painted pages when it has nothing to do with painting. It is in fact a book about collage and sketchbooks which if you do read the synopsis at the back does imply.

The book as a whole after I had realized my mistake was not so bad. It has good beginning section on materials that a novice would learn a few things from, as an experienced mixed media fanatic I was already familiar with the information provided. It does however give good advice on collage material and what to collect. The book also has a good section on how to do a basic image transfer, if you have never done that before.

Their is one paragraph in this book that really made me laugh ''Begin a new art-making session with a nice clean desk'' That never happens in my room, no matter how hard I try!

I found one thing really annoying with this book, it gives you a paragraph on something and then tells you to go to another page near the back of the book to see the illustration, it was pretty pointless, it could have just been written with that illustration instead. The book also has several sections and photographs on guest writers, these make absolutely no sense at all. These guest writer articles seemed to appear at random and had nothing to do with the section they were placed in. They are not relevant to the book and I could see no reason for it being included in the book apart from to add a few more pages.

I have seen this artist published in Somerset magazines, this is what initially prompted me to buy this book as she had some really good articles and art work. Had I flicked through the book in person in a shop I would not have bought it because I do not like to do collage and I think it is aimed at the beginner market.

Sorry to say, I would have to recommend to pass on this one.

As part of the club challenge we are to do a piece of work inspired by what we have read. Here is mine. I asked friends to pick random numbers for the prompts at the back of the book to create my page. The prompts used in order are: Use book page as collage, sign your name on the piece, close your eyes and paint or draw, paint lines shapes or dots with a tiny brush, paint with your finger. To finish I added words and doodling.

Recent Art Journalling

I haven't shown any art journalling for a while so thought I would do a catch up.

My first page came about after a huge disappointment with someone that I considered a great influence to me and someone who I looked up to. I am no longer enchanted by this person and am glad to see the real side of them, instead of the fake one that has been projected for years.

My next page is proof that journalling while drunk is so not a good idea! It represents the fake end of the world when they Mayan calendar ended and all the nut jobs thought the world was going to end. No offence to nut jobs intended.

My next page is my summary to my 2012 journal your year and what I learned from the year, pretty self explanatory I think. The image is from Joe Cartoon hand drawn into my journal.

My final page is for the Creativity Venture and the completion of my personal challenge.

Thanks for Looking!

WOYWW 365 Calendar Update

What's on my desk today? It is the 1st of August so that would be my 365 art calendar page! Where has this year gone? Don't forget to pop along to Kate's blog  and Julias blog to add yours to the lists.

August isn't fully stuck down yet as I am getting a new car, hence the car shaped journalling spot. I don't know when I will get it but it is on its way and should be here Friday/Saturday so I don't want to stick it down in the wrong place.

Art Geeks 26

This weeks Art Geek's prompt is hosted by the creator, the lovely Christy of Gulfsprite. The theme this week is simple things, and the accompanying video to the theme Christy did the most gorgeous page with flowers. I decided to recreate it in my journal because I loved it so much! While I created my page I thought since Rich was nerding and the internet had a pretty good stable connection that I would also stream it live on Ustream. After I had finished broadcasting I decided to turned the hour and a half stream into a 10min youtube video, so the youtube may look a bit weird, that's because I was talking to my lovely viewers and answering questions as I went.

Fly journal page

I have been working on this page for a couple of days now, I must say its not really me, its girly and pretty but I really like it! Phrase and gold leaf pattern and the gold leaf are all from my favourite place Indigoblu. Butterfly's were in a plastic grip seal bag in the bottom of a drawer so your guess is as good as mine where they came from! I will probably doodle on it as time goes on so it wont stay like this forever.

Busy week!

This week was quite mental, started the house buying process, nearly got blown up and went to Art From The Heart twice!!!! Firstly I have a page in my ledger journal which I completed when I found out that I would in fact be moving into pretty much my ideal home, only thing its missing is being in some hot exotic English speaking place like Barbados! Why English speaking you ask? Because I have such a bad memory for languages I really struggle

Next we have yesterdays page completed at Art From the Heart, it was Sunday journalling regulars moved to Saturday. Dyan was still jet lagged bless her but managed to hand out a cracking challenge, she handed us all a quote and piled all her new CHA stuff in the middle of the table and let us all at it! Much fun.

And last but by no means least the first trip to Art From the Heart was for a class with the fabulous Kate Crane. The class was all about box making and here are a couple I errmm finished at home, too much yabbering from me! Would you really expect anything else from me though haha! Stamps used on the box's are Stampotique, Hero arts, Tim Holtz and my favourite, Indigoblu!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend.
